It is one of the most common cicadas in Portugal, occurring in almost all the territory, especially in the center and south, and some of the references, especially the oldest one, may refer to different species.

Distribution - Cited from Algarve (Castro Marim, Loulé, Tavira, Vila Real de S., Portugal), Baixo Alentejo (Ferreira do Alentejo, Serra do Mendro, Vidigueira), Alto Alentejo (Alter do Chão, Campo Maior, Crato, Elvas, Estremoz, Herdade da Mitra, Monforte, Portel, Serra do Mendro, Sousel), Estremadura (Albarquel, Lisbon, Loures, Monte da Caparica, Serra da Arrábida, Sesimbra), Ribatejo (Paialvo, Soure e Tomar) and Beira Litoral (Alburitel, Buçaco, Coimbra, Leiria, Serra de Aire e Candeeiros), Beira Baixa (Serra da Estrela) and Minho (Serra do Gerêz).

Ecology - In several trees such as oaks, eucalyptus, olive trees, pine trees, etc...

Notes - Males emit acoustic signals from the end of June until the beginning of September. Males callwhile perched on trunks and branches of several trees and shrubs. The call is, discontinuous, made up of a series of sound elements (echemes) produced continuously and regularly. Morphologically it is practically as Cicada barbara lusitanica Boulard, from which it is easily distinguished, however, by the characteristic continuous sound of this latter.
